Un jour = a day, 24 hours, a measure of time
Une journée = the daytime, between sunrise and sunset, a period of time.

For example:
  • Un de ces jours = one of these days
  • Elle fait du sport tous les jours = She exercises every day.
  • Il va arriver pendant la journée  = He will come during the day.
  • Elle fait du sport toute la journée = She exercises all day long.
