Les 13 desserts
Dec 24
In the South of France, more specifically the Occitanie and Provence, Christmas eve is celebrated with 13 “light” desserts (nuts, raisins, fresh and confit fruit, etc) that are eaten following the meal and left on the table for three days.
The 13 desserts represent Jesus and his 12 disciples, and they are set on 3 table cloths with 3 candles (“bougies”).
While this began as a religious tradition it has become a family tradition in the South of France.
Whatever your plans, and wherever you are, I hope you have a wonderful holiday !
